A Strategy of Value Enhancing Differentiators

For optimal creation of value, DOLPHIN is a horizontal SIP provider, with all three types of ViC in CMOS: Logic, Analog and Memories. It is the sole approach enabling a reassuring understanding of SoC issues, and high efficiency, while tracking the moving target of peripherals most on demand. They have strived over the years to take advantage of the softness of said virtual components for providing flexibly integratable Solutions in ready Kits: this enables satisfying the need for customers to perform the optimal differentiation for their SoC.

This offering is said to be "Chipless" but is far-reaching and complete - as opposed to the hopeless development of a rigid catalog of parts - thanks to the formula initially launched by DOLPHIN of Kits of Logic, Analog and Memories for SoC, embedded in the motto KLAMS™, so as to ensure Time-To-Fab with Reliability and Yield.

Originating in the late 80's as an ASIC Design Center, DOLPHIN from mid-94 on has positioned itself as Virtual Component SIP Provider by transforming its know-how into products for this fast growing "chipless" business.

A strategy of value enhancing differentiators

What counts is not the sum of costs of isolated virtual components, but their global return once embedded in the whole real SoC ! They hence must keep demonstrating their on-going creativity in the Value-Added SIP market with a unique Business Model combining seven Value Enhancing Differentiators, as may be seen in the pages of product presentations herein:

  1. Fab-process migration automated, especially for Mixed Signal layout
  2. The IQ of IP: the Index of Quality is explicit and high, thanks to making use of Virtual Test and Diagnostics based on proprietary simulator SMASH up to Virtual Yield diagnosis!
  3. A Cooperative design-in per ISO-9001 is offered (e.g. refer to our professional publications at conferences and VSIA)
  4. Services over Products are proposed intensively, complementing shrink-wrapped deliverables, thanks to our underlying KLAMS™ process
  5. Products over Patents partaking in ensuring end-user competitiveness, as opposed to commodity products (e.g. refer to our recent "ROM" and "POC" patents)
  6. Partnerships enable our (I&C) Industrialization and Commercialization process, enriching our R&D efforts up to the ViCToRY™ program for value-added resellers
  7. SIP differentiation Roadmaps for "off-the-shelf" products with shrink-wrapped pricing (e.g. one extreme case of "Flip8051", fastest ever and now upwards compatibly to 16 bits, and hiCOD-95 at the other extreme for resolution) mostly based on innovative patents.

The microcontroller 8051 and SMASH the Multi-level mixed signal simulator

Business Recurrence in the cases of Analog and Memory ViC is ensured by the need for Fab-process migration at each technological generation. But for the Logic Cores, in a market dominated by providers of proprietary architectures, DOLPHIN is positioned with the best legacy architectures for the low-end. Inheriting an installed base of 10 Billion real parts, with software bases dating from the seventies, the Microcontroller 8051 is the flagship product for peripheral control, and the fastest of the industry at that. It is also available on FPGA, and the most encompassing one at that. Here Business Recurrence results from on-going performance and functionality improvements, while a cooperative stance with all contenders to the 32-bit virtual CPU market is the rule for bus compatibility.

To ensure a position of strength on this budding SoC market of more than $28 Billion, a product of the MEDAL offering promotes a new standard in microelectronics modeling: that of (MMS) Mixed signal Multi-level Single-kernel Simulation! This electronic simulator SMASH™ already sold by the thousands, on UNIX or Linux and Windows of all vintages… sole proponent of a standard for such single-kernel simulation. It makes it the sole actor where Cosimulation is truly needed as in SUCCESS™ for application development on a core-based SoC.
