Mixed-signal SoCs embedding high SNR audio ViC require efficient and low-noise power supply to guarantee no performance drop due to bumble-bee noise. Therefore qualifying the right Power Management Unit for a specific CODEC is one of the major step in the evaluation process of an embedded solution. The key is to provide integrated solution: a CODEC together with its optimized and dedicated power-supply regulator.
Dolphin innovates by providing high performance audio ViCs together with their Power Supply solution adapted to each Power management application schematics. Compliance is then fully ensured thanks to Dolphin technique in Power Noise Tolerance Template (PNT2) for audio ViC This solution facilitate integration flow as SoC integrator has only to deal with a unique database.

Embedding a Power Management Unit

Enriching SoC functionalities by proposing Embedded Power Management solutions is a new trend as EPMU maximize Return-On-Investment compared to external PMU solutions. However it also shifts the emphasis of PMU compliance with SoC contents, from the PCB designer to the SoC integrator.
Thanks to Dolphin solution, the integration flow is made easier as SoC integrator does not have to handle:

  • Regulation of audio CODEC power supply as the solution is optimized for a specific CODEC in a specific application schematics
  • On-chip management of supply noise as SNR level of the whole path is guaranteed per the specification.

As a peripheral of the audio ViC, the voltage regulator is specified together with its audio VIC: both are delivered as a unique database. One unique black box is to be integrated: no interface nor compliance issues can raised.
