MEMS Generators

In 1997, DOLPHIN decided to get involved in MEMS modeling and development, i.e. enabling the integration of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Structures into a System-on-PCB or a System-on-Chip. The office in DUISBURG was opened with the charter to promote this activity. An initial transfer of know-how was performed from Gerhard Mercator University, Fraunhofer IMS Duisburg about meXel, the first solution for dynamical exchanges between mechanical and electronic elements: it facilitated industrial partnerships in a region highly proficient in mechatronics. DOLPHIN proposes modelisation services, a library for modelisation and MEMS generators.

 

> What is a MEMS generator? A generator is an EDA tool, which automatically creates the layout and the simulation model for silicon processes. Our MEMS generators generate the layout of the electro-mechanical part of the MEMS. Besides the automatic layout generation, our generators support the designers with a simulation model. This provides a system simulation of the complete MEMS.   > Why generators for MEMS? In most cases the mechanical part in a MEMS must be adapted to a specific application. For example, the diameters of pressure sensor, plates, membranes depend on the pressure range which the sensors should cover. This resizing can be done by a layout generator. This saves a significant amount of time and avoids errors in comparison to a manual layout.   > Which MEMS can we create? DOLPHIN proposes currently only the Capacitive Pressure Sensor Generator. Two other generators are under development: a Gyroscope generator and an Accelerometer generator. If you want to know more about these two new generators, please contact us to receive the datasheet.
