SCROOGE Acquaintance

 

What is a SCROOGE Evaluation Kit?

From the download page, you may download a free, functional, evaluation kit for your platform allowing you to get acquainted with SCROOGE. These evaluation kits are neither slide-shows nor self-running demos. The evaluation kits are functional solutions that will even allow you to compile new behavioral models, as long as the evaluation limitations are not exceeded. However, these evaluation kits will not handle large circuits and the License restricts usage to evaluation purposes. Warning dialogs will be displayed when you use the evaluation option and, if you try to run a circuit that exceeds the limitations, you will get an explicit error message.

You should start by running the tutorial (available from the download page and installed with SMASH) which guides you through simple examples and provides miscellaneous information.

One legal "detail": you are free to distribute (not to sell!) these evaluation kits without any restriction, as long as you do not modify their contents. If you feel you would need a full solutions (with no size limitations) for acquaintance with SCROOGE on bigger circuits, please contact Dolphin, time-limited rental is possible.

What is SCROOGE Seduction?

SCROOGE Seduction is a free option of SCROOGE™ that provides the simulation of all your logic, analog and mixed-signal circuits if your circuit size does not exceed the limitations detailed below. The License authorizes the use of SCROOGE Seduction for any design purposes. Other commercial options of SCROOGE offer simulation of unlimited circuit sizes.

If you enter your hostid on the download forms, you will automatically receive access codes for the Seduction option of SCROOGE. Installing these access codes removes the warnings dialogs displayed during the use of SCROOGE Seduction and enables its use for teaching or other purposes. The SCROOGE Seduction download is a complete installation of SCROOGE. Therefore, commercial access codes can also be used to enable complete usage. The downloaded installer can of course be used to update your local installation of SCROOGE.

 

What are the limitations?

The limitations are the following:

  • SPICE nets are limited to 25
  • ABCD modules cannot be compiled
  • 30 ASIC model instances may be loaded (BSIM3, BSIM4, MM9, EKV…)
  • 30 model instances may be loaded using relaxation
  • Verilog-HDL signals are limited to 50
  • Verilog-HDL processes are limited to 15
  • Verilog-AMS quantities are limited to 30
  • VHDL signals are limited to 50
  • VHDL processes are limited to 15
  • VHDL-AMS quantities are limited to 30
  • 50 model instances may be loaded using SCROOGE (SMASH add-on for Logic Power Consumption)

 

What is an Innovation Contract ?

As an alternate approach to one-shot deals, the Innovation Contract ensures regular updates with two releases per year improving the already available functions and implementing new ones. Updates are both consequent to in-house innovations but also take into account suggestions for improvements which are both expected and encouraged in the frame of the Innovation Contract to provide effective productivity gains in the users Design Chains.
 
Since most customers do not condone an excessive frequency of updates, as it would be upsetting end-users training, habits and plans, a six-month revision period seems to be optimal for the time being. It is in effect as an alternance of Spring releases and Autumn releases. Customers may however subscribe for any twelve-month period.
 
Differently from common EDA vendors, Dolphin’s philosophy is to deliver freely what is generally called maintenance. Indeed, we do not want our users to pay for what is mandatory and inherent to our EDA solutions. In that way, our users benefit, for free, from our technical support for one year including ASAP corrections of all detected bugs.

 

SCROOGE for Unix (Solaris/Linux)

The required hardware/software configuration is an x86 PC running RedHat Linux or a SUN Sparc workstation running Solaris, with 250 Mbytes of free disk space.
To install this evaluation kit, simply run the downloaded installer (.install) by starting it from a command line shell.
Please refer to the Installation Guide that you received with the Seduction access codes. The only 'system' manipulation you will need to perform is to configure the shell startup file of your account home directory. You do not need root privileges to install. No system files are modified by the installation.
The Cadence interface (nicknamed COACH) for SMASH is not part of the evaluation kit. However, you may download pdf a description of COACH which explains the integration between Composer™ and SMASH™.

SMASH for Windows XP/Vista

The required hardware/software configuration is an x86 PC running Windows XP/Vista, with 250 Mbytes of free disk space.
To install this evaluation kit, simply run the downloaded installer (.msi) by double-clicking on the downloaded file. The installer is a standard Microsoft Installer, which allows clean uninstallation if needed, as well as network installations.
